Healthy Habit No. 1: Good Nutrition – Eat Breakfast and Eat Balanced Meal

Breakfast eaters are champions of good health. Research shows people who have a morning meal tend to take in more vitamins and minerals, and less fat and cholesterol. The result is often a learner body, lower cholesterol count, and less chance of overeating. Another study in the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition showed that people who consumed breakfast everyday reported feeling better both physically and mentally than those who rarely ate in the morning. For kids, breakfast appears to enhance alertness, attention, and performance on standardized achievement tests.

Balanced nutrition should consist of fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. Scientific research has proven that the basic original diet is still the most healthful. By eating foods in their natural state, unrefined and without additives, many diseases can be prevented and often even reversed.

Food should have eye appeal as well as be flavorful. Our diets should include a variety of foods every day. By combining different types of food we are assured that we are getting all the necessary nutrients needed for good health.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A good breakfast should contain the most calories of any meal. Choose foods high in protein an complex carbohydrates. Don’t forget the fruit. Try to eat a good lunch and a very light supper. This will give you energy for the day and a better night of rest.

Add Fish and Omga-3Fatty Acids to Your Diet. Besides being a good source of protein and a food relatively low in the bad type of dietary fat called saturated fat, fish has omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)—which have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. Foods such as tofu, soybeans, canola, walnuts, flaxseed, Pecan, Hazel nuts and their oils contain alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), which convert to omega-3 fatty acids in the body.

One way to incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet is to have them as snacks. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and high in nutrients. These plant foods can do many things to boost good health, including: Reduce the risk of some cancers. Beat the signs of aging. Improve memory. Promote heart health. Enhance the immune system. Always let good nutrition be your medicine and plant food be your prescription drug of choice.
